Approach
Vocabulary cards teach word recall, but not reading. Reading is hard because text is written for fluent readers. The Add-On is technology that brings the power of SRS to the medium of reading.
Anki already provides a great SRS. Pindu adds an engine that generates reading passages from it and a reader UI that scaffolds those passages with glosses and audio.
Think of the Add-On as a bespoke graded reader integrated into Anki. It is built for self-directed learners who want reading practice that builds on their flashcard habit.
Features
Get SRS credit from reading. As you read, you mark words that are hard or that you've forgotten. Pindu commits the marks to your Anki collection as native SRS reviews. Vocabulary maintenance and growth become a byproduct of reading.
Build calibrated text passages. Pindu prepares passages from the vocabulary in your collection, not from a generic level. Whether you want to read extensively or intensively, the passages are tailored to you.
Read with scaffolding. Pindu's reader bundles dictionary lookups, translations, text-to-speech, a tutor chat, and Anki card integration. Use it for Pindu's generated passages or your own imported text.
Stay in Anki. The Add-On launches from Anki and complements your current review habits. Read, review, or do both: your work feeds the SRS either way.
Compatibility
- Requires Anki 24.11 or later on desktop.
- Supports Mandarin Chinese, Simplified or Traditional.
- Glossing features use API keys you provide.
