What the Add-On keeps locally and when information leaves your computer.

Overview

Pindu for Anki runs on your computer and uses your existing Anki collection. Pindu Labs does not receive your deck contents, card contents, review history, or vocabulary model merely because you install or use the Add-On.

Information kept on your computer

The Add-On stores its configuration, note-type mappings, reading sessions, generated material, caches, and service API keys within your local Anki profile and add-on files. Anki controls the collection and review data to which Pindu writes. Your own Anki synchronization and backup settings govern copies made by Anki.

Version checks and usage analytics

The Add-On contacts Pindu Labs to check for new versions and notices. Like any web request, this exposes ordinary connection information such as your IP address, request time, and a generic Add-On user agent to our hosting provider.

The Add-On also sends pseudonymous usage events through a Pindu-operated proxy to Google Analytics. These events can include a randomly generated installation identifier, Add-On and Anki versions, operating-system and Python versions, screens used, workflow outcomes, and session duration. They do not include your email address, deck names, card or passage text, API keys, or review contents.

You can disable usage analytics by setting external.analytics_opt_out to true in the Add-On configuration. Version checks still occur so the Add-On can report updates and important compatibility notices.

External AI and speech services

Online text, scraping, and speech features are optional and use provider accounts and API keys that you configure. When you invoke one of those features, the Add-On sends the text, URL, and instructions needed for the request directly to the selected provider. Depending on the feature and your configuration, that provider may be OpenAI, OpenRouter, Microsoft Azure, or Jina AI. Pindu Labs does not receive your API keys or proxy this content.

Each provider processes and retains requests under the terms and settings of your account with that provider. Avoid sending material through these features unless you are comfortable sharing it with the selected provider.

How we use and retain information

We use version requests and usage events to maintain compatibility, understand whether features work, diagnose broad failure patterns, and improve the Add-On. Analytics information is kept only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes. Local Add-On data remains until you remove it through Anki or your computer.

Your choices

You can use the Add-On without configuring any external AI or speech provider, disable usage analytics as described above, and remove local Add-On data through Anki. To ask about information associated with an installation identifier or request its deletion, email us.

Changes and contact
